President and CEO

Norman Burns, president and CEO of Conner Prairie, is an entrepreneurial leader, museum, and non-profit management executive with a 38-year history of successfully developing innovative approaches and compelling visions for operating history and general museums. As the CEO and executive director of six different historic properties and general museums in Tennessee, Virginia, and Indiana, Burns has developed nationally recognized, award-winning exhibits, interpretive and educational programs, and innovative approaches and compelling visions for operating museums. He has served on various boards and committees, as well as in officer positions for cultural tourism agencies and museum organizations, where he has been a presenter, moderator, and author. He is the Past Chair of the American Association for State and Local History. Burns earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He and his wife, Sandy, have three grown sons and five grandchildren living in Indiana, Virginia, and Massachusetts.

Conner Prairie Foundation

The Conner Prairie Foundation board of directors oversees the management of the museum's endowment and the land and structures of the museum, including the William Conner House.
